Good location

The chalet style was lovely, plus the fact that we were essentially in a room of 4 rather than the 8 bed dorm that was advertised. Having a fridge and kitchen cupboards and a sink was great.

I liked the atmosphere and the facilities.

Good, central location; lounge and internet cafe were comfortable. There is a small pool as well. Dorm rooms are nice - beds were comfortable, and showers/bathrooms were clean.

on rainy days quite nice because they offer a lot of movies for free on a huge TV

Nice big dorms, I really like the two separate rooms with 4 beds each with the mini-kitchen set-up.

it's set up like a holiday park, nice separate cabin dorms with front porches. separate main house for bar and kitchen/common areas.

They were very helpfull even though there was a big game on so it was super busy! The room was good, clean for as far I could see (there were already other people with loads of stuff). The shower was nice and hot.

I had an absolutely amazing stay at Base Bay of Islands. From the moment I arrived the staff were so friendly and helpful - I ended up spending most of my time speaking to them! The bar has a really good atmosphere and cheap drinks. Furthermore, the layout of the hostel is brilliant and it is quite small so it's so easy to chat to the other travellers! The location is fantastic - really close to a beautiful beach and loads of activities. Furthermore, the staff are more than happy to help you book activities or offer advice on what you can do whilst you are there. I am definitely going to try and spend more time at this hostel, and Paihia, before I leave NZ!

The staff were really friendly and helpful - they booked all my activities and got me some really good deals! The room i stayed in was clean and i love that it had its own bathroom. The Pipi Patch bar was awesome - great drink specials and amazing atmosphere, I stayed all night!
