We provide accommodation with peculiar charm. The hostel was formerly the “millionaires’ mansion” arranged for the miners, built in 1946. In 1999, Barrack 102 became Gjestehuset 102, currently hosting the happiest visitors in town.
Our accommodation includes free internet, linens & towels, breakfast, and other amenities.

The owner of Gjestehuset 102 is a miner, who started working in 1980 right in Mine 3. He is proudly one of the most experienced miners in town. He spent his first winter in Sverdrupbyen, where Mine 1b is located, and then moved to Nybyen, where Barrack 7 (now Gjestehuset 102) was established for the best qualified mine workers in town.
Arne bought the Barrack in 1999, nowadays considered as a cultural heritage site in Svalbard, and created the possibility to host people.

Good Spot to see the Northern Lights!
Beautiful views of the mountain and snow. Great breakfast spread to start your day. Coffee and tea all day which is very welcoming in a cold environment. Staff are more than accommodating.

L'équipe est adorable et arrangeante, l'endroit chaleureux et convivial. Possibilités d'utiliser des frigos en libre accès, d'arriver/repartir sans couvre-feu (l'hôtel est situé près de tout), après y avoir passé plusieurs nuits, je recommande vivement !

No tenía wifi. Las sábanas y la habitación en general olían mal, como a hospital. Y el baño dejaba que desear porque la ducha no tenía soporte, es decir, te duchabas en el suelo y empapabas tooodo el baño.

Excellent location. Reasonably clean (although, not sure how wise it is, from a hygiene point of view, to have the shower IN the toilet cubicle :/ ). One regrettable aspect of the hostel was a particular member of staff who seemed to be thoroughly stoned
